    Biographical history

    John Griffith Lewis was born in Claresholm, Alberta in 1920. He studied engineering at the University of Alberta and then worked for the Department of National Defense and the Department of Transport, working on airport construction across Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

    In 1943 he married Jean Elizabeth Lewis (1921-2017), who was in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, and the couple had two children, Margaret Anne and Shirley Elizabeth. In 1946, the Lewis family moved to the Claresholm area and began farming until 1956, when John became town manager and engineer for th Town of Claresholm. In 1964, the family relocated to Edmonton where John worked for the Government of Alberta and Jean worked for the Edmonton Journal in the advertising department.

    He died in Edmonton in 2005.
