    Biographical history

Henry Ruste was born in Wainwright, Alberta, in 1919. He operated a farm in the Wainwright area. He also served on the boards of a number of community organizations, including the Wainwright Municipal Hospital, the local Lutheran Church, and the Wainwright Rural Electrification Association. He married Arlene Steffensen (1926-1991) in 1954, and together they had three children: Ivor, Sharon (Hanziker), and Don.

He was elected as Social Credit MLA in 1955 for the Wainwright electoral district. He served as Minister of Lands and Forests (1965-1968, 1968-1969) and Minister of Agriculture (1968-1971). Although the Social Credity party lost control of the Legislature to the Progressive Conservative party, he won his seat in the 1971 election and remained in the Legislative Assembly until he retired at the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly in 1975.

After leaving office, he returned to the family farm. He died in Wainwright in 1993.
