The Agricultural Extension Branch was established in 1959 when the Agricultural Extension Service changed its name. It became the Extension Branch of the Extension and Colleges Division in 1966. It disbanded in 1967.

The Information Branch was established in 1967 for the purpose of informing producers and the general public of new developments in agriculture. It was transferred to the Administration area in 1972 after the Extension and Colleges Division was dissolved and Colleges were transferred to Advanced Education. It was renamed the Communications Branch in 1973. Its functions were absorbed by the Communications Division in 1979.

The series relates to the Agriculture Hall of Fame Awards. The Hall of Fame was established in 1951. It is the highest honor conveyed by the Department to citizens who have made outstanding contributions to Agricultural life in Alberta. The records include communication about the Hall of Fame special events.
