    Administrative history

    Although aerial surveys had been a responsibility of the Department of Lands and Forests since 1951, it was not referred to as a section until 1970. It was known as the Aerial Surveys Branch from 1971-1973. In 1973, it combined with the Cartographic Branch to form the Aerial Surveys and Mapping Branch.

    Administrative history

    The Resource Evaluation Branch was formed in 1976. It continued within Energy and Natural Resources until the Department ceased in 1986. The Branch included three major responsibility areas: Resource Mapping, Resource Inventory and Appraisal, and the Natural Resources Information System. The Branch provided comprehensive photogrammetric and cartographic services, map and air photo reproduction, the inventory and appraisal of natural resources, and the development of an overall natural resources information system for public land and resources.
