    Biographical history

    Albert Edward Ward was likely born in Killarney, Manitoba, sometime between 1890 and 1900.He was the son of Matthew Ward. The Wards moved first to Cochrane, Alberta, and then to the Sedgewick area of Alberta. Albert's siblings included Edith, Nelson, Edna, Martha, Myrtle, Joseph and Albert.

    Albert was a doctor, and was awarded a scholarship in the Faculty of Medicine offered by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta for the highest marks in surgery. In his later life, he lived in England.

    The fonds consists of images copied from glass negatives, originally dating 1916-1918, primarily of the Sedgewick, Alberta area, including a horse and cart, horse and sleigh, a girl and her doll, grain elevators, horse racing, Sports Days, buildings, farms, a baptism, musicians, harvesting, school construction, automobiles, a tractor, a sail boat, horses; also included are images of the Sports Day in Killam, Alberta and a view of Killam. Some of the glass negatives from which copies were made were quite damaged and this is reflected in the copies that were made.

    Mr. and Mrs. Ron Butt allowed the records to be copied by the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1983. Originals were returned to them. Mrs. Myrtle Butt was Albert Ward’s sister.
