The Alberta Milk Control Board was established in 1969 under An Act to Amend the Milk Control Act (S.A. 1969, c. 70). It changed its name in 1972 to the Alberta Dairy Control Board.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of the records of the Dairy Control Board of Alberta and its predecessors pertaining to its mandate to ensure that an adequate supply of safe, quality dairy products was available to consumers at reasonable prices through policies and services that supported a profitable, competitive, market-driven Alberta dairy industry. The records include policies, procedures, agreements, correspondence, orders and directives, minutes of meetings, statistical and position reports, and case files of dairy manufacturing plants. The records also pertain to milk quotas, litigation activities, the National Milk Marketing Plan, equalization pools, and the Western Milk Pool. The photographs include glass plate negatives of early dairy farming activities as well as images of Board members who served from 1975-2001.
