    Administrative history

    The Augustana University College Faculty Association (AUCFA) was formed from the Faculty Welfare Committee at the former Camrose Lutheran College in Camrose, Alberta. Members of the Faculty Welfare Committee began discussing the need for a faculty association in 1987 and held a faculty referendum on the question on November 2, 1988. The Camrose Lutheran College Faculty Association was created by a vote of 35 faculty members in favour and 14 faculty members against.

    The association was officially chartered by the Government of Alberta as the Camrose Lutheran University College Faculty Association on April 22, 1991 and began acting as the bargaining unit representing all faculty at that time. The founding executive of the association consisted of President Paul Harland, Vice-President Ed Friesen, Secretary Tim Parker, and Treasurer Johannes Vanderleeden. The stated objectives of the association were:1. To foster academic community among members of the Association and to promote the professional interests of its members;

    1. To promote freedom of thought, teaching, and research;
    2. To provide information, suggestions, and guidance to the Administration of Camrose Lutheran College in matters of general faculty interest;
    3. To represent all members of the Association in employer-employee relationships with respect to such matters as salary and benefits, pension, working conditions, leaves, job security, and grievances;
    4. To cooperate with other organizations whose interests and purposes are similar to those of the CLCFA; and
    5. To promote positive relations with the community at large.

    The association changed its name to the Augustana University College Faculty Association on June 2, 1994 to mirror the name change of the educational institution from Camrose Lutheran University College to Augustana University College.

    As the AUCFA, the organization continued to perform functions in line with its objectives until Augustana University College merged with the University of Alberta to become the University of Alberta Augustana Campus in 2004. The AUCFA officially dissolved on December 22, 2004 and its membership joined the University of Alberta Association of Academic Staff.
