    Biographical history

    Lizzie (Beth) Ann Hamner was born August 20, 1884, the daughter of Joshua Hamner. On September 17, 1907, she married John Mills Imrie (1885-1942). They had one daughter, Mary Louise (1918-1988). The family came to Edmonton, Alberta from Toronto, Ontario in 1921 when John became the managing director of the Edmonton Journal.

    Beth provided the funding for Imrie House, one of the first group homes for patients from Alberta Hospital Edmonton and Alberta Hospital Ponoka. She was also active in Robertson United Church, the Royal Glenora Club, the Edmonton Symphony Society and the Canadian Mental Health Association.

    She died in 1984 at the age of ninety-nine.

    The fonds consists of figure skating programs, an issue of Town Talk, the Edmonton Allied Arts Council newsletter and a Christmas card.
