History
Bruce William Hogle was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1929 to Bill and Frances Hogle. He grew up in Prescott and Sudbury and chose a career in journalism, working for the Prescott Journal and Sudbury Star newspapers where his father was the editor. He also gained radio experience at the station in Sudbury.
The family moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta in 1940. He enlisted as a reservist with the Southern Alberta Regiment, ultimately becoming a full lieutenant with the Royal Canadian Infantry. After a period working for the Manitoba Bureau of the Canadian Press, he returned to Medicine Hat to work with his father at the Medicine Hat News. He married Gail Maraney of Medicine Hat in 1954. They later moved to Trail, British Columbia, where he worked as the editor of the Trail Daily Times, and Regina, Saskatchewan, where he worked as a news director for CKRM Radio and, later, as the Public Relations Director for the Saskatchewan College of Physicians and Surgeons.
In 1965, the family moved to Edmonton, where he would become news and public affairs manager for CFRN Television, and station manager for CFRN Radio and The Bear. He hosted a public affairs television program called Face the Newsmen. His father, William (Bill) Hogle, started editorials on radio and television, from 1955 until his death in 1965. Bruce took over from his father, and did the editorials for twenty-five years, which equates to approximately 20,000 editorials. As of 2005, Bruce's son Steve is the news director for CFRN Television. Bruce and his wife Gail have three sons.
In 1993 Bruce was presented with an Honourary Life Member in the Western Association of Broadcasters. He was appointed to the Order of Canada in 1998 and the Alberta Order of Excellence in 2011.
