              The fonds consists of an interview by Sheila Way of Helen Westley as part of the oral history project of the AARN History of Nursing oral project. Westley describes her training at Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary and her work as a professional nurse in Southern Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon, and as a volunteer with CUSO, in a medical mission in Papua-New Guinea (a one-year appointment). She observed the doctor/nurse/patient relationships in the hospitals in which she worked, and comments on the changes that have occurred since she began nursing. There is background noise on the audiotape which obscures the dialogue in some places.

Gingras records her observations on the changes in medical/nursing/patient relationships, in medication and procedures, and in nurses’ professional and union activities, that have taken place during her career.
