The files in this series include those managed at the Foyer Lacombe in St Albert, and include the records for Oblates who had some responsibility within OMI Lacombe and its predecessor organizations.

            This series consists of records that document the management functions of the Oblates in the course of the work performed by the provincial Administration throughout the Vice-Province of Mackenzie. The records consist of administrative and operational correspondence with Oblate administrators at various levels, including Rome and with the various missions and parishes the Oblates served, and also with the Catholic Church and with external organizations. The series also includes correspondence files with the administrators of other provinces, the administrators of various Catholic bodies, with religious organizations of men and women, and with the administration of institutions run by the Oblates, including Indian Residential Schools and the federal government. Administrative records also include those related to Oblate vocational work and clergy formation as well as records pertaining to the establishment of missions, schools, orphanages, hospitals and the operation of chapels and churches in various communities.

            This sub-series consists of administrative records acquired by the Vicar of Missions / Vice-Provincial of Mackenzie, in dealing with administrators of local community organizations. The records in this sub-series consist of records of various local museums and organizations, including the Northern Life Museum located in Fort Smith, N.W.T.

            This sub-series consists of administrative records of the Provincial of the Province of Alberta-Saskatchewan, in dealings with bishops, vicars and communities of religious women, those administrators of dioceses, archdioceses, vicariates and other bodies. The records in this sub-series consist of correspondence, circulars and memoranda on spiritual and theological issues, business matters and concerns in the communities related to education, finances and individuals.

            The topics of the records vary according to the bodies involved, but specifically, the records deal with some common themes, including administrative concerns and pastoral duties, diocesan and ecclesiastical affairs, the administration of the missions, residential schools and the parishes, conflicts between Anglophones and Francophones, as well as the day to day administrative work of these bodies and their interactions with the Oblates.

            This sub-series consists of administrative records of the Provincial of OMI Lacombe Canada, in dealing with administrators of dioceses, archdioceses, vicariates and other bodies. The records in this sub-series consist of correspondence and memoranda with numerous dioceses and secular organizations, as well as loan agreements or contracts with the Musée Héritage, Provincial Museum of Alberta (PMA), Mackenzie Diocese, and the Sisters of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. There are inventory lists of returned, transferred and/or appraised artifacts from the Faculté St-Jean, Royal Alberta Museum (RAM), Inuit people, Fort Smith Northern Life Museum, Centre Vital Grandin, St. Paul’s Province and St. Mary’s Province. Furthermore, there are requests from the RAM and publications such as the Museletter from Musée Héritage, brochures, training sessions, year-end reports, proposals, thank you letters, and school tour correspondence from the St. Albert tour guides as well as storyline texts, cataloguing procedures for historical items, proposals from the Centre Vital Grandin. The records also contain historical notes about St. Joseph’s Basilica, St. Albert’s 100th and its 125th anniversary, St. Albert Parish, Lac La Biche and its 75th anniversary, and the Mackenzie Diocese regarding ordination liturgies, reflections, articles, newsletters, and Polish oblates.

            The fonds consists of music sound recordings as well as architectural drawings from St. Joseph’s Seminary and Newman Theological College, Edmonton. The fonds has been arranged into two series to include the sound recordings and the architectural drawings.

            The records consist of histories in French and English about the Saint-Emile Parish of Legal and the Sisters of Charity (Grey Nuns) in Legal, as well as images of Legal, including a tractor, farm machinery, church interiors and exteriors, a log cabin, and lumbering. There are also photographs that depict Indigenous children at the Blue Quills Residential School of Saint-Paul between 1959 and 1966, and group portraits, snapshots, and depictions of school events and groups such as the Sea Cadets. Some of the subjects are identified and all of these photos are dated. The material covers the period from the beginning of 20th century to 1994.
