    Administrative history

Crossfield United Church dates prior to 1905 when both Methodists and Presbyterians worshipped in the area. Circuit riders held the first meetings in homes and then in a CPR station, an old box car without wheels. By 1902, services were held in the store, then in the school. In 1905, both groups established building foundations.

The Methodists built a stone church with stone quarried three miles north of the town. The church was dedicated Easter Sunday, April 17, 1906. The Presbyterians did not build. Other denominations attended the Methodist Church and in 1916, it officially became a Union church. Additions have been made to the church building, including a parlor (1939) and Sunday School rooms (1957). The interior was remodeled in 1958 and a new front was added in 1960.

The original building of Crossfield United Church was destroyed in a fire in November of 1998. Construction began shortly thereafter, and the new building opened in December 1999. When the Madden United Church closed in March 2001 the congregation amalgamated with Crossfield.

Crossfield United Church was originally included in the Red Deer Presbytery of the Alberta and Northwest Conference. In 1948 it became part of Calgary Presbytery and in 1964 it became part of Foothills Presbytery. Crossfield United Church was a part of Foothills Presbytery until 2018, when the four-court system in The United Church of Canada was replaced with a three-council model. As of 2024, it forms part of Chinook Winds Regional Council and is the only preaching point within the Crossfield Pastoral charge.
