    Biographical history

    David Bertrum Mullen was born in Peterborough, Ontario in 1885. He worked in a meat business with his brother before purchasing the business. He sold the business in 1907 and moved to Edmonton, where he worked in the meat packing and realty businesses. He married Essie Ryan (1890-1934?) in Peterborough, Ontario in 1911. He and his wife had two children: John Donald (1913-1963) and Margaret (Wood).

    He was first elected as an MLA in 1935 for the Edmonton electoral district. He served as Minister of Agriculture (1937-1940).

    He died while still holding office in Edmonton on October 28, 1940.

    The fonds consists of the records of David Mullen created during his tenure as Minister of Agriculture. The files pertain to branch operations regarding field crops, fish and game, fur farms, the Wheat Surplus Board, and agricultural exhibits.
