    Biographical history

Edgar Ernest Charles Powell was born in Wadford, England on November 22, 1894. He immigrated to Canada in 1903 with his family and settled on a farm near Brandon, Manitoba.

The family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba shortly thereafter, and in 1913 Powell joined the North West Mounted Police (NWMP). He was stationed at Lethbridge, Alberta and served with the Sundial and Grassy Lake detachments circa (ca.) 1914. Powell joined the cavalry during World War I and served overseas for two years in France, taking up farming for a short time upon his return from service.

He rejoined the NWMP and then joined the Alberta Provincial Police (APP) as a constable. He served with the APP for ten years, getting promoted to detective in 1928. He left the APP and moved to Edmonton, Alberta to become a health inspector. Powell rejoined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) at the outbreak of World War II, leaving the RCMP after the war to work as a health inspector in Bermuda. At some point he returned to Alberta and worked for the Edmonton health department and in various other towns in Alberta before retiring ca. 1971 to live with wife Hazel in Edmonton, Alberta.

He married Hazel Fern Alcorn (1892-1988) in the Philippines in 1930, and together they had two children: James and Grace.

    Powell died in September1987
