The Alberta Tree Nursery and Horticulture Centre appears as a branch on the Ministry's organization chart in 1981. It was transferred to the new Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Development in 1992.

The branch was transferred to the new Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development from the Ministry of Agriculture in 1992. In a reorganization of the Plant Industry Division in 1995, the Centre was renamed the Crop Development Centre-North and its programs were assigned to new branches. Although the Centre remained an agricultural research facility, it no longer served as an operational branch.

The series consists of the records pertaining to extension and library services provided by the agricultural research facility in Edmonton. The files include newsletters, research and published articles from external organizations, internal reports and studies from the facility, and other related records.
