    Esso Resources Canada Limited (Ltd.) was formed in 1978 to handle Imperial Oil Ltd.'s resource operations. The Imperial Oil Company, Ltd. had been incorporated in 1880 and initially operated out of London, Ontario.

    Scope and content

    The fonds consists of Imperial Oil related images, dating from the early part of the 20th century, and includes images of the Dingman oil site near Turner Valley, oil seepages, work crews, a train car, a cable-car, members of the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, George MacAdams and George Sheppard, who both worked for the Brazeau Forest Reserve, pack horses, log cabins, Indigenous dwellings, the Brazeau train station, a coal mine and members on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation Reserve at Morley, Alberta.

    Immediate source of acquisition

    Janeen Bowes, from Public Affairs of Esso Resources Canada Limited, allowed the Provincial Archives of Alberta to copy the records in 1978. The originals were returned to her.
