            The fonds contains 14 negatives of “Indian Days” at Fort Macleod in 1919-1920, which show numerous people in uniform (soldiers and NWMP) and in various styles of Indigenous regalia. There are also five undated negatives of military personnel and aircraft and one undated negative of the Prince of Wales Hotel under construction in Waterton Park (likely 1927). All of the negatives were taken by Alexander Cochrane Wright.

            The collection also includes an envelope for a 1931 photo order from McDermid Drug Co. Limited (of Calgary, Alberta), and a photograph of the attendees of the NWMP Veterans’ Annual Banquet, held in Calgary, AB in 1925. The banquet took place in the Hudson Bay Company store dining room. This photograph was taken by Collins & Gillies.

            Fonds consists of records produced by the [Kainai First Nation] Blood Indian Agencies at Fort MacLeod and Cardston, and include correspondence to and from the Department of Indian Affairs (Canada), supply lists, goods tenders, vouchers, a list of destitute Indigenous persons, and a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) report concerning a destitute Indigenous person. There are also records of employee returns, services records and charges, and other assorted financial records created by and for the Standoff Hospital.

            This collection contains microfilm reels of newspapers copied by the Canadian Library Association as part of its various microfilm projects. it includes various newspapers related to Alberta and the west, spanning 1871 to 1910, and includes Le Manitoba (1881-1900), Saskatchewan Herald (1878-1910), Farmer’s Advocate, Western Editor (1890-1910), Métis (1871-1881), Calgary Eye-Opener (1902-1922), Lethbridge News (1885-95), Macleod Gazette (1882-1906), and Edmonton Bulletin (1880-1906).

            There are also some reels from the T. Eaton Co., including The T. Eaton Co. Limited mail Order Catalogue (1953-1964) and T. Eaton Catalogue (1884-1953).

            The fonds is composed of textual records from during Coutts’ time in office working as an MLA. The records include letters to and from David Coutts, both in correspondence with citizens and other government employees. Coutts’ agendas and planners are also included, in which he kept track of his daily meetings and responsibilities. All planners prior to 2006 were kept in physical notebooks, while the 2007 planner was solely kept digitally (this donation contains a printout of the digital planner).

            There are also large groups of records from the committees that Coutts worked on. These include committees on issues and legislation such as the Taskforce on NAFTA Wind Turbine Manufacturers, Crowsnest Pass Economic Development, the Natural Heritage Act, the VLT/Gaming Room Review Committee, and the Castle River Wildlands Recreational Area, among others.

            The fonds consists of records created by Edward P. McNeill as part of his law practice in Fort Macleod from 1899-1913 prior to his appointment as a judge of the District Court of Alberta. The fonds includes client files (1882-1913) pertaining to land sales, mortgages, partnerships, agreements and contracts, wills and estates, and brands. The files also pertain to civil litigation, including representing the Hudson’s Bay Company in overdue accounts cases as well as business dealings with banker John Cowdry and rancher Edward Maunsell. The fonds also includes files pertaining to the administration of his law practice (1902-1910) as well as his personal business interests (1898-1912).

            The photograph from the production of the film “Policing the Plains” depicts about 15 people on horseback (some Indigenous and some police), with the nearer parts of the photo less blurry than the further. There is also a tipi in the background of the photo.

            On the back of the photo is the following caption: “July 1924 Western Picture Co. Vancouver Motion Picture. ‘Policing the Plains. Director & Producer A. Kean, white shirt & cowboy hat. Next actor portraying Jerry Potts. Left policeman C. Edgar. Scene – taking main pole of Sundance Lodge from river bottom to the dance site.”
