    Biographical history

Frank Pike was born June 27, 1878 in Carbonear, Conception Bay, Newfoundland, the son of Captain James Pike (1841-1925) and Susanna Taylor (1855-1930). Leaving Newfoundland in about 1898, he worked for a time at the Montreal, Quebec railway yards. He found employment with Merchants Bank of Canada beginning in 1899. After apprenticing as a clerk for the Merchants Bank in Port Renfrew, Ontario, Frank was posted to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. In 1902, Frank was transferred to Wetaskiwin, Alberta.

In 1905, Frank opened a Merchants Bank branch in Camrose, Alberta. He married Georgia West (1882-1966) in Wetaskiwin in 1910, and they lived in Camrose. After a year in Camrose, Frank was transferred to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In 1912, he was transferred to Vancouver, British Columbia, where he was manager of the Hastings Street Branch of the Merchants Bank. Frank and Georgia's son Francis Rodney (1912-2002) was born in Vancouver. In 1915, Frank was transferred to Edmonton. After the amalgamation of the Merchants Bank and the Bank of Montreal, Frank became manager of the Bank of Montreal's main branch in Edmonton in 1922.

Frank was vice-president of the Board of Trade, and first president of the Edmonton Kiwanis Club. He was also highly involved in Robertson United Church's Men's Club. In 1935, he was elected Honorary President of the Men's Faculty Club at the University of Alberta. Frank reluctantly retired in September 1941. He, his wife and their daughter Kathleen (Duncan) moved to Victoria, British Columbia in 1945.
