    Biographical history

    Gilbert William Ghewy was born in England in 1892. He served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, enlisting in Quebec City in 1915 and leaving the military as a captain in 1919. He was first married to Alice Marie Ghewy but later married Lorraine Charon (d. 1975). He had a son, Bernard (1916-1944), who died overseas.

    He was a public relations officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a special representative on the Wartime Information Board.

    The fonds consists of itinerary and photographs of Air Vice-Marshall K.G Nairn's tour of Units Nos. 2 and 4 Training Commands and Western Air Command, Wartime Information Board report on routes which includes information on Alaska Highway, Mackenzie River Valley, Normal Wells and Camp Canol, booklets about Whitehorse and a aneroid profile of the Alaska Highway. The fonds also includes photographs taken by the United States Army Signal Corps in the Northwest Territories, Yukon and northern British Columbia.

    Sarah Catherine Turnock donated the records to the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1979. She was an employee of the Office of the Special Commissioner for Defence Projects in Northwest Canada, which was the headquarters of the Wartime Information Board in Edmonton.
