    Biographical history

    George Henry Cresswell was born in 1866 in Shropshire, England. He left England in 1894 and moved to the Edmonton district of the North-West Territories. He married Elizabeth Allan November 30, 1897.

    For most of their lives, they lived in the Namao area. Beginning in 1896, George bred purebred horses, many of which won awards at the Edmonton Exhibition and other international fairs. He was one of the first directors of the Edmonton Exhibition Association and was named the first honourary life member of the Exhibition in 1937. He was also active in the Alberta Horse Breeders Association, serving for a time as president. He retired in about 1939.

    George and wife Elizabeth had eight children, Ellen (Nell) (Wilkinson), Henry (Harry) George, Isabel (Fredericksen), Jenny (Walton), Jessie (Scott), Fred, Dorothy (Bannman) and Alex. George Cresswell died April 14, 1949. Elizabeth Cresswell died December 25, 1968.
