Geschiedenis
Henry Walter Heathcote was born on December 27, 1853 in Westerminster, London, England. In 1884, he married Annie Selina (Nan). Annie Selina was born on November 3, 1881 in Enfield, Middlesex, England. Throughout their marriage, Henry and Selina had seven children: Eveline (Walker) (1885-1972), Dora (Sillitoe) (1886-1966), Olive (Murdoch) (1889-1979) and Hilda (Pinder-Moss) (1890-1989) (born in England), Winifred (Moffat) (1895-1972) (born in Strathcona), Elsie (NItschke) (1899-1999) and Lesley (1904-1999) (born in Edmonton).
In 1894, the Heathcotes traveled from England to Strathcona, Alberta to a homesteading farm. The homestead was located at SW 14, 15, 23, 4. Shortly after arriving in Strathcona, Henry convinced other homesteaders in the area that taxation was necessary to start a school. His efforts resulted in the establishment of Wimbledon School District # 399, NW 10, 51, 23, W4 in 1895. After several years on the homestead, Henry left the farm to take a job at the Imperial Bank of Canada in Edmonton. Henry also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Edmonton Volunteer Fire Department until 1908.
Following Henry's departure, the Heathcote women continued to work on the homestead with the assistance of hired help. However, in 1901, the Heathcotes sold the homestead and moved permanently to Edmonton at the corner of Third and Peace Avenues.
Henry died in 1936, and Annie died in 1938.
