    Biographical history

A recipient of the Order of Canada, Ian Tyson left behind the itinerant logging and rodeo life of British Columbia at the age of twenty-four and hitchhiked to Toronto. Caught up in the folk music revival, he formed, along with Sylvia Fricker, the legendary singing duo of Ian and Sylvia. The influential folk duo, Ian and Sylvia, married in 1964, recorded many numerous commercial and critical hits. After hosting a national Canadian television music show from 1970 to 1975, Tyson returned to the west, and began ranching in southern Alberta. Tyson has spent his life ranching and recording music in Alberta.
