The fonds consists of the records of Dick Johnston pertaining to his career as a Member of the Legislative Assembly and a provincial cabinet minister. The fonds is divided into the following series:
- Ministerial records, including records from his predecessor Lou Hyndman as Minister of Federal and Intergovernmental Affairs as well as Provincial Treasurer;
- Constituency records; and
- Minister of Municipal Affairs records, including records from his predecessors Alfred Hooke, Edgar Gerhart, Frederick Colborne and David Russell that Johnston received upon taking office
