The fonds consists of records reflecting both the public and private lives of the Wards as children, friends, spouses, parents, students, teachers, potters and promoters of heritage. The records include personal photographs, university diplomas and report cards, personal and professional correspondence including letters of reference, household finances, sketches and arts magazines, immunization reports and medical insurance plans, a marriage certificate, obituaries and memorial booklets, and newspaper clippings.

The fonds also includes a significant number of records created by Henry Ward related to both his own and Jean's genealogy and family histories. In particular, these records detail the contributions of Jean's parents A.P. and Mary Hanley to the town of Drumheller, Alberta, and Henry's uncle Samuel A. Dickson's contributions to the Rotary Club of Edmonton and Fort Edmonton Park. Types of records include diaries, birth and marriage certificates, obituaries, family trees, genealogical research and related correspondence, and transcribed oral history interviews.

Lastly, the fonds includes contracts, plans, photographs, magazine articles and other records relating to the design and construction of the Ward home by Jean Wallbridge and Mary Imrie, the first partnership of women architects in Canada.

There are also personal photographic images and auto-biographical narratives that document McPhee's experiences in the Great Depression, World War Two, and his activity as a sky-diving enthusiast. There are also photographs of Alberta locations such as Wayne, Drumheller, Carbon, and Lethbridge in addition to the the Wayne, Rosedale, and Drumheller floods in 1948.

The fonds also contains three video recordings: a video made by Mel McPhee of the 49th Loyal Edmonton Regiment's visit to Ortona, Italy in 1994 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Ortona, "Where the Hell is Wayne, Alberta?" a video made by Mel McPhee of the Wayne Reunion held in 1982, and "Thunder in the Valley," a commercially-made film made for the Atlas Coal Mine Historical Society.

The fonds also contains copies of photographic postcards acquired by Ian Paterson dating from the early part of the 20th century. Most of the photos focus on Youngstown and surrounding villages. The photos depict baseball games, picnics, the interior of a Drumheller coal mine, a group portrait of recent army recruits from Youngstown in 1916, unidentified people and farm sites, and various businesses/buildings in the area.

The fonds consists of photographs created by Hudgeon as part of his professional work and as a hobbyist. There are three distinct types of photos: portraits (weddings, graduations, group portraits, etc.), news photos, and scenic shots.

The portraits make up the bulk of the photos and the selected portraits all depict identified subjects, with a few exceptions. In addition to the types of portraits mentioned above (namely weddings and graduations), there are also formal portraits of Scout groups, school classes, Rotary Club events, and other social gatherings in Drumheller and Delia.

The news photos depict specific events such as parades or the aftermath of news-worthy events such as accidents or fires. Many of these photos have newspaper copy attached to the back, thus providing detailed information about the images.

The scenic shots depict the built environment of Drumheller and Delia with some landscape shots present.

The textual material consists of several daily diaries kept by Blanche Chambers of Morrin, AB. Chambers was a family friend of the Hudgeons and gave these diaries to Earle at some point. There is no further information about Chambers or her relationship with the Hudgeons, but the diaries contain an immense amount of information.

The diaries have daily entries, with each journal accounting for one year. The 1950s are particularly well-represented with some years in the 1960s-1980s present, as well. The diary entries provide information about the weather, daily activities, special events, and domestic life. There are also inserts such as pamphlets, extra pages for diary entries, letters, and drawings. Furthermore, some diaries contain hand-drawn quilt designs.

The fonds consists of notebooks in which Splinter recorded the progress of the projects he was working on; collected separate materials such as letters and plans; and noted dates, locations, and temperatures. The diaries are extremely detailed and effectively document the planning and building processes used by Public Works for various sites around Alberta, including Drumheller, Boyle, Stony Plain, Edmonton, Bowden, Thorsby, and others. There are also some sites in the Northwest Territories. Building projects include federal sites such as RCMP buildings and community projects such as gyms and sports fields.

An audiocassette accompanies the seventh volume of the notebooks and consists of Splinter elaborating on the projects documented in that notebook.

The series consists of the administrative and operational records of the Alberta Government Employment Service and its predecessor, the Alberta Government Employment Bureau, pertaining to its work with the federal Employment Service of Canada to manage labour supply and demand in the province.

The administrative records include personnel files and other staffing records; agreements with the federal government; orders in council; expenditures, budgets, vouchers, placement costs, and other financial management records; office accommodation expenses; transportation; office supplies; mailing lists; and other related records.

The operational records include liaison files with the federal government, stakeholder organizations and local employment offices in Calgary and Lethbridge; files related to immigration and deportation of workers; applications for work and for workers; and employment program files related to ex-servicemen including those with disabilities, farm labour, youth employment and training, highways, forestry, and skilled workers during World War II. It also includes a variety of program-related reports, including daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly statistical reports regarding employment conditions in communities as well as summaries of applicants, vacancies and placements for men and women in Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Drumheller.

The series also includes records related to unemployment relief activities undertaken by the Service, including operations of camps, including bush and railway camps, in Calgary, Edmonton, Drumheller and Lethbridge as well as payrolls, grants and other files related to relief initiatives in cities as well as rural communities.
