Public Lands DivisionThe series relates to Integrated Resource Planning, which is the effective management and utilization of natural resources and public lands that belong to the Crown. The series includes general information; regional, sub-regional, and local level plans; and reviews of plans and strategies. The records include correspondence, policies relating to the planning process and implementation of integrated resource planning, strategies, Regional Integrated Decisions (RID), and related documents.

Public Lands DivisionThe series relates to operational records of the Public Lands Division and its successors that address restrictions and the notations / reservation program on public lands. Under the Public Lands Act, notations are used to identify public land and resources that are set aside to achieve a particular land use or conservation objective. A reservation is the identification of a specific intent for a parcel of land.
The records include correspondence, forestry projects, reservation/notation requests and cancellations, reports, agreements, sketches, maps, charts, tables, proposed land exchanges, general land administration information, program reviews, protective and consultive notations, guidelines, and program administration records.

The records may include applications; auction or tender documents; plans, drawings, sketches and surveys; financial documents; specific disposition type documents; forms; legal land searches; and correspondence.
Alberta. Lands and Forests. Public Lands DivisionThe series consists of correspondence relating to the use of federal land such as National Parks, weapons ranges, research areas, and the transfer of lands. It also includes correspondence about Indigenous Reserves.
Alberta. Lands and Mines. Provincial Lands AdministrationThe series consists of records pertaining to Miscellaneous Leases of public land. A Miscellaneous Lease (MLL/DML) is issued for various industrial, commercial, recreational, and residential purposes that require the lessee to hold tenure and exclusive use of the land. A Miscellaneous Lease is used when another disposition type cannot be applied. The records may include, but are not limited to: Lease and application; amendment and renewal documents; lease/rental documents; plans, sketches and surveys; specific disposition type documents; inspection reports; termination and reclamation documents; worksheets; legal land searches; forms; and correspondence.
Alberta. Lands and Mines. Provincial Lands AdministrationThe series relates to the use of waterbodies on public lands and riparian rights. The records were maintained by the Public Lands Division and include correspondence, agreements, and inquiries relating to bed and shoreline management of lakes and sloughs; draft policies on water management; background papers on Riparian Rights; surveys; definitions; court cases regarding ownership of waterbodies; and other related documents.

Tax recovery lands are lands that were once privately owned but forfeited back to the province to be managed as public land. The records include inventories, transfer and sale of public land, land exchanges and appraisals, correspondence, tax notices, summaries, survey diagrams, and policy information.

Public Lands DivisionThe series consists of records relating to the activities leading up to the patenting of (obtaining title to) public land for agricultural purposes. The records include, but are not limited to applications for Homesteads, Farm Development Sales, Civilian Homestead Sales, Farm Development Leases, financial information, reports, letters of cancelation, and correspondence.
Prior to 1930, the Dominion Government was responsible for the homestead program. See the subseries, Homestead records, for pre-1930 homestead information.
In 1930, the responsibility for managing of natural resources (including land) was transferred to the Province of Alberta. The granting of homesteads was discontinued on February 14, 1931 and no homestead entries were made between February 14 and July 2, 1931. After July 2nd, homesteads were available for applicants who had resided in the Province for a specified period. At the same time, the fee increased from $10 to $50. The right to obtain homestead entry, second homesteads, and soldier grant entry was discontinued on the 24th of March 1939, and the right to make an application for the cancellation of an existing entry was also withdrawn.
On July 25, 1939, regulations became effective which provided for the issue of agricultural leases on vacant lands within certain defined areas of the province. The leases were granted for 20-year periods with the lessee being given an option for purchase of the land after 10 years’ residence and operation of the land, providing that compliance had been made with the regulations covering the terms of the lease.
Records regarding homesteads were transferred from the Dominion Government to the Department of Lands and Mines in the 1930s. The Province organized the records into GL (General Lands), SL (School Lands), and GRL (Grazing Leases). From the mid-1950s, the records were organized by legal land description.
Canada. Interior. MinisterThe series relates to Farm Development Sales (FDS), which are public lands sold to individuals or companies for farm consolidation. The records may include, but are not limited to application and sale documents; plans, sketches and surveys; financial documents; specific disposition type documents; reports; legal land searches; forms; and correspondence. The Farm Development Sale program ended in 2011.

Public Lands DivisionThe series relates to Miscellaneous Permits (MLP), which are issued for purposes such as trapper cabins, horse holding areas, temporary campsites, kennels, and storage sites. The records may include permits and applications; amendment and renewal documents; lease/rental documents; plans, sketches, and surveys; specific disposition type documents; inspection reports; termination and reclamation documents; worksheets; legal land searches; forms; and correspondence. The program ended in 2013.
Alberta. Lands and Mines. Provincial Lands DivisionThe series relates to the Alberta Housing Metis Lease (AHM) program. The records relate to leases issued by the Government of Alberta to Alberta Housing and Mortgage Corporation (AMHC) for the building of accommodations for Metis people on public land. The records may include lease and application documents; financial documents; sketches and plans; reports; legal land searches; correspondence. The AHM program ended in 2002.
Alberta. Lands and Forests. Public Lands DivisionThe series relates to the allocation and management of public lands. The records include correspondence relating to municipal taxation, auctions and tenders, role of the land management staff, referral processes, appeal of land use decisions, Agricultural Development Committee (ADC) appeals, real estate appraisals, applications for public land sales, land purchases, exchanges and land use zones. The records also include Temporary Field Authorization (TFA) records. Included in the series are reports about land use and development, and correspondence and polices about the creation and changes of boundaries for public and non-public lands.

Public Lands DivisionThe series relates to the grazing reserves (GRR) program which provides summer pasture for livestock of small scale farmers and ranchers whose privately owned lands are freed for crop and hay production. The records include case files, contracts, invoices and minutes.
