The series consists of news releases issued by the Government of Alberta through the Alberta Communications Network pertaining to events, programs and initiatives undertaken by government ministries.

The series consists of general correspondence of the Film and Photographic Branch pertaining to Alberta's Golden Jubilee in 1955, travel and promotional films, and the National Film Board of Canada.

The series also includes a file of correspondence regarding the acquisition and management of the Ernest Brown photograph collection by the Government of Alberta, including negotiations with Brown and the Minister and Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs as well as the later management of the collection by the Film and Photographic Branch with respect to copying and permissions for use.

The series consists of films maintained as part of the Provincial Film Library, including films produced for or by the Government of Alberta as well as from other sources. The films pertain to:

• Official government events, including royal visits, swearing-in ceremonies, press conferences, and Christmas messages from the Premier and Lieutenant-Governor;

• Travel and tourism promotion, including the Rocky Mountains, the badlands in Drumheller, provincial parks, Expo 67 and Expo 86;

• Community events and celebrations, such as Banff Indian Days, Calgary Stampede, the Muk Luk Mardi Gras, and Klondike Days;

• Sports and recreational activities, such as fishing, camping, skiing, hockey, the Grey Cup, Canada Winter Games, golfing, Summer Games, and the Calgary Olympics;

• Industrial activities, including rural electrification, dam construction, pulp and paper production, oil sands, petroleum refining, mining, ranching, forestry, and irrigation;

• Transportation, including railways, bridges, roads, and airports;

• Labour and career training, including nursing, Olds College, the Banff Centre, and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT);

• and other subjects including Swan Hills, hazardous wastes, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Atlantic No. 3 well fire, Fort Edmonton Park, the Check Stop Campaign, Father Lacombe, the role of communications and Public Affairs, and the United Way.

The series also includes films created for promoting various government programs as well as training staff.

The series relates to Wild Rice Operations. A Wild Rice Operation authorization is issued on Crown beds and shores of water bodies for the purpose of growing wild rice. The records may include authorizations and applications; amendments and renewal documents; lease/rental documents; plans and sketches; financial documents; specific disposition type documents; inspection repots; termination documents; legal land searches; forms; and correspondence.

The series consists of records related to the Government of Alberta's programs related to feeder associations, which are cooperative organizations that enter into agreements with their members for the members to grow, finish or otherwise deal with livestock or livestock products owned by the feeder association. The files contain correspondence, financial reports, and records related to individual associations as well as the Alberta Feeder Associations Loan Guarantee Program.

The series relates to Integrated Resource Planning, which is the effective management and utilization of natural resources and public lands that belong to the Crown. The series includes general information; regional, sub-regional, and local level plans; and reviews of plans and strategies. The records include correspondence, policies relating to the planning process and implementation of integrated resource planning, strategies, Regional Integrated Decisions (RID), and related documents.

The series consist of Forest Fire Reports, which are completed after forest fires. The records include form FP 48 Individual Fire Reports, which indicate the number of fires involved, who cause the fire, and details about how the fire was fought. They include area and value compilation sheets, indicating forest stand description, burned area, and forest cover equivalent value per unit and total value. They include Form TM51 Fire Damage Evaluation, which indicate forest type, area map, percentage of fire kill, and volume. They include fire maps, which show fire and fire weather. They include Form FP63 Air tanker Drop Evaluation, which indicate the type of retardant used, mission success, fire behavior, size of fire, and type of mission. The records also include the Fire Cost Record, which indicates equipment and other costs as well as correspondence and related documents.

The series relates to the training and certification of forest firefighters. The records include correspondence, policies, information about the development of course content, information about participants, and information about personnel certification review.

The series relates to the Fire Management Program. The records include correspondence, policies, the development of course materials, cooperative agreements, research papers, and related documents.

The series consists of maps relating to Forestry in Alberta. The records include Forest Reserve Maps, Forest Cover and Planimetric Maps, Provincial Access Series Maps, Alberta Forest Service Base Maps, and Forest Management Maps including Air Operations, Fire Bombing, and other related material.

The series relates to tree growth. The records include tree growth surveys and master plans as well as correspondence, policies and projects relating to stand tending techniques and activities. Stand tending is work done on a young stand of trees to improve growth and quality.
