This series contains operational and administrative records from the Government of Alberta's Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs.

These records contain project files from the Northern Development Branch, administration files, population and trends charts, and public relations records.

The series consists of records related to social development projects involving educational initiatives undertaken to increase incomes, employment opportunities, and the standard of living for individuals residing in underdeveloped and rural areas of Alberta. The files include correspondence, reports, minutes of meetings, project files, and other related records.

Additional records refer to economic activities in Indigenous communities such as Slave Lake, Peace River, Wabasca-Desmarais, Grande Cache, Strathcona County, Camrose, and Fort McMurray. Other records outline the Métis and Aboriginal settlement and reserves existing in Alberta. They also mention various educational institutions, both post secondary and secondary, and opportunities in the north as well and health and legal issues concerning Indigenous groups.

This series contains recreation records from several Government of Alberta departments, including Community Development and Parks and Recreation. Over the course of the creation of these records, the departments responsible for them changed in name and scope.

These records contain files dealing with the reorganization of the Department, Fort McMurray Daycare Assessment, the Indian Treaties Commemoration Project, the Alberta Summer Games, Cultural Recreation projects and programs, Bill 19, the 1998 World Conference, and the Task Force on Alberta Indigenous games.

The series relates to the Alberta Housing Metis Lease (AHM) program. The records relate to leases issued by the Government of Alberta to Alberta Housing and Mortgage Corporation (AMHC) for the building of accommodations for Metis people on public land. The records may include lease and application documents; financial documents; sketches and plans; reports; legal land searches; correspondence. The AHM program ended in 2002.

Milt Pahl fonds

The fonds consists of the records of Milt Pahl created and received during his tenure as the Minister without Portfolio with responsibility for Indigenous matters, including records created by his predecessors Bob Bogle and Donald McCrimmon received by Pahl when he took office.

The files include correspondence, reports, minutes of meetings, subject files and other records related to liaison activities with Alberta First Nation communities and organizations, oil and gas revenues, child welfare, education, housing, the Slave River hydro project, and grant proposals and applications.

Part of Fire prevention program records

The file contains information on both fire regulations and destruction of Indigenous property by fire. In particular, the records outline fire regulation procedures at Indian residential schools in Alberta. These records were created by various Indian Agencies and the provincial Office of the Fire Commissioner, Indian Affairs Branch. The file includes fire inspection reports for the Holy Angels School in Fort Chipewyan, the School and Dormitory at Gleichen (Old Sun School and Dormitory), Sacred Heart Indian Residential School, St. Barnabas Residential School (Sarcee Residential), St. Bruno's Joussard School, St. Cyprian Residential School, St. Henry's School, the Frog Lake Day Schools [Frog Lake First Nation], and the Kehewin School [Kehewin Cree Nation], among others. Each report discusses substandard conditions, poor construction and substandard equipment in the various schools.

  • Minister of Social Services and Community Health records, including records of his predecessors Helen Hunley as well as Neil Crawford as Minister of Health and Social Development that Bogle received upon taking office.

The series consists of sessional papers and other records tabled in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The tabled records include annual and other reports of government departments, boards and universities related to their operations and programs; reports of royal commissions and commissions of inquiry; reports of Assembly committees; copies of orders-in-council, correspondence, agreements and other records requested by Members of the Legislative Assembly; regulations; petitions from individuals and organizations about various issues; annual public accounts and other financial statements; as well as other returns related to orders of the Assembly. The series also includes lists of reports required to be tabled as well as binders listing all records tabled in the legislative assembly (1979-1987).
