          The fonds consists of photographs taken in Banff at the Highland Games in 1927 including images featuring Bison, Kainai [Kainai First Nation] dwellings, Kainai drummers, a ring and arrow game behind the Banff Springs Hotel, a parade of Kainai warriors, and a hand guessing game. The fonds also includes a photograph of Mr. R.N. Wilson, an Indian agent in the early part of the 20th century in Alberta, and a photograph of Mrs. R.N. Wilson.

          This accession contains information regarding funding for child welfare activities among Indigenous nations in Alberta. In particular, it contains correspondence from Indian and Northern Affairs and Blackfoot Social Services regarding surplus funds for the 1985/86 fiscal year and various financial reports for Treaty Indian groups detailing institutional placement and maintenance costs.

          It also contains two publications (from 1984 and 1985) entitled Management Information Bulletin that outlines existing social services such as child welfare, day care, employment opportunity programs, health, education and promotion services, income security, mental health, and widow’s pensions. Included next is financial data on the Yellowhead Regional Tribal Council and the Beaver Lake, Bigstone Cree, Blood, Boyer River, Cold Lake, Cree, Dene, Ermineskin, Fort Chipewyan, Fort Mckay, Fort McMurray, Frog Lake, Heart Lake, Janvier, Kehewin, Little Red River, Louis Bull, Lubicon Lake, Montana, and Paul Bands.

          File GR1971.0074/1 was commissioned by the Alberta Provincial Planning Branch. This black and white map illustrates the geographic location of Blood Indian Reserves #148 and 148a [Kainai First Nation], Pigeon Lake Reserve #138a and Stony Plain Reserve #135. All are located in the Edmonton-Hobbema district. In particular, it shows the location of the Canadian Pacific Railway, Highway 2, Battle River, nearby town sites, and various smaller rivers, lakes and streams. Its dimensions are 37x25” (1970)

          The fonds consists of photographs, dating from the 1950s and 1960s, taken by the Lethbridge Herald or Crighton Studio, of Indigenous peoples in traditional attire including the following individuals: Jim Shot Both Sides; Yvonne Pelletier; Walter Bastien; Joe Crow Shoe; Julius English; Pat Bad Eagle; Jim Morning Bull; Albert Little Mustache; George Calling Last; Nathan Many Feathers; Wings; John Yellowhorn; Bob Tail Chief; Chief Body; Jim Shot Both Sides with Indian Affairs officials. The fonds also includes several clippings related to health services for First Nations in Alberta dating from the 1960s and 1970s as well as photographs of various Indigenous peoples across Alberta and the Territories: the interior of an igloo at Kuugjuaq (Perry River), Nunavut; Walking Buffalo seated near a tipi; an octogenarian at Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut; a young boy at a camp at Contwoyto Lake, Nunavut; a church at Kingaok (Bathurst Inlet); Father P. Henry at Qikiqtaq (King William Island), Nunavut; Louise Falls at Xátł'odehchee (Hay River), Northwest Territories; Inuit people hauling in a whale; Inuit children sampling whale blubber being hung to dry; and a flock of 2400 reindeer near White Point, Nunavut.

          The fonds reflects Tom Count's professional occupation in the heritage industry and consists of copies of two photographs featuring the interior of T.M. Williams' Harness Shop; a copy of a photograph featuring a drill used by the Geological Survey of Canada in Pakan, North-West Territories in 1898; and a copy of the murder trial of Charcoal, an Indigenous individual [Kainai First Nation] who was tried at the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories in 1897.

          Fonds consists of records produced by the [Kainai First Nation] Blood Indian Agencies at Fort MacLeod and Cardston, and include correspondence to and from the Department of Indian Affairs (Canada), supply lists, goods tenders, vouchers, a list of destitute Indigenous persons, and a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) report concerning a destitute Indigenous person. There are also records of employee returns, services records and charges, and other assorted financial records created by and for the Standoff Hospital.

          The collection contains hospital registers from the health care centre at the Blood Indian Reserve [Kainai First Nation] near Standoff. The smaller register contains the patient’s name, age, sex, date of admission, reason for admission, date of release and condition on release. The larger register contains additional statistical information such as vital statistics, date of admission, in or out patient status, school status in the case of children, number of meals eaten during stay, days in hospital, days treated, and results. The original documents which were microfilmed to create this fonds were created between 1899 and 1923.

          This material consist of research manuscripts and notes pertaining to songs, rituals, artifacts, and the ethno-botany of the Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika nations of Alberta. Specific topics include the use of wild plants by the Siksika, Siksika women, the Pigeon Society of the Niitsitapi, sweat lodges, the Siksika Sun Dance, the Siksika medicine pipe bundle, and the ritualistic use of eagle feathers by the Siksika.
