    Biographical history

    Born in 1906, James Russell McFall was the son of William Russell McFall, an early pioneer of southern Alberta. James R. McFall worked at the Dominion Experimental Farm Service in Lethbridge, Alberta.

    In 1945 he succeeded E.W. Brunsden as Secretary of the Alberta Federation of Agriculture. He remained Secretary until 1970 when the Alberta Federation of Agriculture merged with the Alberta Farmers' Union to form the Unifarm Association. McFall then served as Secretary of the Unifarm Association.

    He was married to Florence Fairbanks (1912-1966), and they had four children: Russell, Patricia, Robert and Jim (d. 1978). He later married Evelyn Jones (1909-1993). He died in 1983.

    Fonds consists of records reflecting James R. McFall’s involvement in a variety of agricultural organizations, which he accumulated as a member of these organizations. These records were not created by McFall in his capacity as the Secretary of the Alberta Federation of Agriculture, and as such do not constitute the official records of the organization. The records in this fonds include scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, handbooks, guidebooks, by-laws, and a photograph. The fonds has been divided into the following series: Scrapbooks and other material; and Publications.
