    Biographical history

John Alfred Nichols was born January 7, 1894 in London, England. The youngest of seven children, his father, Arthur Nichols, died when John was still young. John, along with his sister Helen, immigrated to Canada in 1910, joining three brothers who were already homesteading near Clyde, Alberta.

In 1934, John married Annie Lillian Marshall in Edmonton, and together they had two children: Brian and Patricia (Macleod). After their divorce in 1942, John worked throughout the province while his sister raised the children. John later worked for the Department of Agriculture in Manning, Alberta. He retired in 1964, subsequently became an avid photographer, and traveled around the world taking photographs.

    John died November 10, 1981.
