    Biographical history

Juliette Marie-Josèphe Richard was born on December 21, 1931 in Lac La Biche, Alberta, to Médard and Anita (Durocher) Richard. She spent her early years on the family farm near Normandeau, Alberta. At a young age, she spent several years in a Calgary hospital, suffering from polio.

She graduated from the Académie Assomption, an Edmonton high school, and enrolled in University of Alberta's Faculty of Education in 1951. One year later she began a teaching career in Alberta's bilingual schools that lasted 35 years. Juliette retired in 1987 in Edmonton.
