Although Land Disposition was a function of the Public Lands Division in 1975-1976, it wasn't until 1976 that the Public Lands Disposition Branch was formed. The Branch was responsible for issuing and administering dispositions on public land for grazing, agricultural, commercial, industrial, residential, recreational, and sand and gravel extraction purposes. The Branch continued within Energy and Natural Resources until the Department ceased in 1986.

Scope and content
The series relates to the allocation and management of public lands. The records include correspondence relating to municipal taxation, auctions and tenders, role of the land management staff, referral processes, appeal of land use decisions, Agricultural Development Committee (ADC) appeals, real estate appraisals, applications for public land sales, land purchases, exchanges and land use zones. The records also include Temporary Field Authorization (TFA) records. Included in the series are reports about land use and development, and correspondence and polices about the creation and changes of boundaries for public and non-public lands.
