    Biographical history

Larry Warawa was born in Lac Bellevue, Alberta in 1943. His parents were Demetrius (Dmytro or Dan) Warawa and Annie Tymko (or Tymkiw), both of who were first-generation Canadians. Demetrius was born in Alberta in 1908 to Ukrainian immigrants Fedor (Fred) Warawa and Feshka Warawa of Bilavci, Galicia. Annie was born in Lac Bellevue in 1912 to John and Katerina Tymko of Brody, Ukraine.

Demetrius and Annie Warawa set up a homestead in Lac Bellevue in 1932 and continued to farm until their retirement in 1974, at which point they relocated to St. Paul, Alberta. Larry attended primary school in Lac Bellevue and transferred to a high school in St. Paul. After graduation Larry helped on the farm until attending vocational school where he studied diesel engine mechanics. He then worked in the construction industry building houses in the St. Paul area until his retirement in 1998.

Larry married Angelina de Silva in 1972. Angelina died in Edmonton in 2009, and Larry died in Edmonton in 2011.

    Custodial history

    Scope and content

The fonds consists of five binders, each with a different theme such as Warawa’s family, sites around Alberta, and the 2005 Alberta centennial. Starting in 2003, Warawa travelled around Alberta and Saskatchewan extensively to photo-document the two provinces on the verge of their respective centennials. Much of this project is captured in the selected binders.
