    Biographical history

    Michael Kully was born in 1911. He began teaching in 1932 after graduating from Normal School. He taught for five years before opening his own business in 1938. Michael also worked as a Janitor at Myrnam School while he upgraded his education. In 1959, Michael began teaching at Myrnam School; he taught from elementary school to grade 12.

    He married Leona Rudinsky in Edmonton, Alberta in 1940. Born in the Ukraine in 1913, she immigrated to Canada with her family in 1919. After graduating from Alberta Normal School in 1938, she taught at Round Hill School until her marriage. She then taught elementary school at Myrnam until her retirement in 1981.

    Michael and Leona had two children: Robert and Alec. Michael Kully died in Myrnam in 1979. Leona Kully died in Myrnam in 1997.

    The fonds consists of materials created, used, and maintained by Leona and Michael Kully throughout their teaching career in Alberta including curriculums, workbooks, tests, marks, planning kits, teacher agreements, correspondence, timetables, clippings, brochures, poems related to the teaching or language arts, science, arithmetic, health, social studies, test keys, and children's art work including drawings and sketches dating, Alberta Teacher's Association magazines, and Canadian Teacher's Federation newsletters. The fonds dates from 1923 to 1979.

    Immediate source of acquisition

    Robert Kully, son of Leona and Michael, donated the material in PR1997.0306 to the Provincial Archives of Alberta. Gord Yaremchuk, whose parent's farm neighboured the Kully farm, donated PR2008.0108.
