    Notice biographique

The Lucas family were early pioneers in Western Canada. Samuel Brigham Lucas, born July 15, 1844 in Aylmer, Quebec, moved to Western Canada in the late 1870s as a government surveyor. In 1879 he was hired by the Federal Government to be the first Indian Farm Instructor in the Wetaskiwin area. His wife, Amelia Francis (nee Aylwin) and their children joined him in 1881.

The Lucas family resided in the Edmonton area until 1891 when Samuel was transferred to the Tsuu T'ina First Nation Reserve near Calgary. They moved again to Ponoka in 1897, where the family engaged in farming. Samuel and Amelia, who was also born in Quebec in 1844, married in 1871.

They were together until Samuel's death in 1907. Amelia died 11 years later in 1918.
