    Biographical history

    Mabel B. Constantine was born in 1880 in Moncton, New Brunswick. She was the daughter of George Lewis (1845-1904) and Sarah (Ross) Constantine (1849-1913). The family moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1884, and then to Innisfail, Alberta in 1891. She attended school in Calgary and subsequently taught in Innisfail.

    On December 23, 1903, Mabel married Austin Eshleman Clemens (1870-1933) of Leduc, Alberta. They had two children: Constance (Orr) (1915-1977) and Betty (Rackette) (1921-1994).

    Mabel died in Edmonton in 1963.

    The fonds consists of records relating to Mabel Clemens's teaching career prior to her marriage, including teachers' examinations, correspondence, and teaching certificates.

    Betty Rackette, daughter of Mabel Clemens, deposited the records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1986.
