        Historique

Michael Clark (1861-1926) was born in Belford, Northumberland, England. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, and practiced as a country physician in Belford and Newcastle-on-Tyne. In 1882, he married Elizabeth Smith (1860-1926), and they had four sons: Michael (1883-1918), George (1887-1968), James Albert (1889-1932?), and Robert William (1897-1923)

The family moved to Alberta in 1902 and homesteaded on the Little Red Deer River west of Olds. Michael ran unsuccessfully in the 1905 provincial election but was elected to the House of Commons in 1908 as Member of Parliament (MP) for Red Deer. He was re-elected in 1911 and 1917 but defeated in 1921. He ran as a Liberal until 1917, when he ran as a Unionist member during the First World War supporting Sir Robert Borden. He ran under the Progressive Party of Canada banner in 1921. Michael died in Olds in 1926.

After his father embarked on a political career, George took over running the farm in 1908. He married Winifred Douthwaite (1892-1978) in Eagle Hill, Alberta in 1917, and they had three children: Robert (1920-1986) and Alan (1922-2000), and Joe (1926-2003).
