    Biographical history

    Mildred Johnson was born in Lost Lake (now Enchant), Alberta in 1910. She attended provincial normal school and taught at 12 Mile Coulee between Picture Butte and Nobleford, later moving to Picture Butte. She married Ralph Joseph Byrne (1907-1973) in 1939 and left the teaching profession. Together they had three children: Dennis, William, Mary Ann, and Dianne.

    They moved to Lethbridge in 1947, and Mildred returned to teaching in 1958 at where Mildred taught at Westminster School. She later taught at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute and Lethbridge Community College until her retirement in 1975.

    She died in Lethbridge in 2010.

    The fonds consists of sheet music arrangements of popular music for the ukulele dating from the 1920's to the 1960's collected by Mildred Byrne.

    In 1998 Mildred Byrne donated the material to the Provincial Archives of Alberta. It's unknown if Mildred Byrne used the music.
