    Biographical history

    Sarah Elizabeth (Sadie Eliza) Reed (1874-1967) married Herbert Alexander Samis (1876-1957) in Olds, Northwest Territories in 1898. The Samis family had come to the Olds, Alberta area in 1893.

    Sadie and Herbert had five children: Margaret Elinor (Philp) (1900-?), Percy Melville (1903-1904), Sadie Evangeline (McKee) (1902-1933), Thelma Marie (McKinney) (1904-1938), and Kenneth (1906-1993).

    Sadie later moved to Bon Accord, Alberta. She died in 1967.

    Scope and content

    The fonds consists of copies of photographic postcards featuring Alberta scenes circa 1910 - 1911 taken by J.R.F. McKitric. The postcards feature the Catholic Separate School in Edmonton, a River steamer on the North Saskatchewan River, Lacombe, the Low Level Bridge, line ups during the Lethbridge land rush, the Incline Railway in Edmonton, and boatman on the Athabasca River.

    In 1968, Mrs. H. Samis allowed the Provincial Archives of Alberta to copy the photographs.
