    Biographical history

    Norine Janet Lauder was born October 11, 1895 in Edmonton, North-West Territories to Thomas Gray and Sarah (Chandler) Lauder. Norine's grandparents, James and Hannah (Gray) Lauder, along with their children, immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba from Scotland in 1874, and traveled on to Edmonton in 1881. James and Hannah opened Edmonton's first bakery and confectionary in 1886, selling the business in about 1902. Hannah died in 1910 and James in 1924. Norine's father, Thomas served as one of Edmonton's first fire chiefs.

    Norine attended Alex Taylor School and later worked as a stenographer and secretary for various law firms in Edmonton. She retired ca.1965.

    She died in Edmonton on October 12, 1983.

    The fonds consists of portrait images of James Lauder and Hannah Lauder, an image of a group in front of Jasper House in Edmonton in 1891, an image of the Lauder Bakery in 1891, a photograph of Dr. H.C. Wilson, the first Speaker of the Legislative Assembly ca. 1900, a photograph of Dr. H.L. McInnis ca. 1900, and a photograph of R.B. Bennett ca. 1900.

    In 1967, Norine J. Walker donated material to the Provincial Archives of Alberta Norine J. Lauder allowed the records to be copied by the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1974 and 1978.
