    Administrative history

In June 1972, a videotape recording project began at the Oldman Cultural Centre in Brocket, Alberta. The project consisted of surveying members of the community to measure awareness of specific issues such as employment, education, band council, housing, ranching, and a proposed complex that would include a sports arena, businesses, a laundromat, a restaurant as well as an overarching five year plan to improve the welfare of community members in Brocket.

In September 1972, the project re-interviewed community members to determine any increased awareness.

    Custodial history

In 1996, Reg Crowshoe of the Oldman Cultural Centre brought the tapes to the Provincial Museum of Alberta for copying and use in the Aboriginal Peoples Gallery. The Provincial Museum of Alberta transferred the tapes from a reel to reel format to VHS and created an inventory for the tapes.

    Scope and content

The fonds consists of 6 VHS cassette copies of recordings of the Video Tape Recording Project at Brocket, Alberta.

The collection contains several videocassettes of Oldman Cultural Centre consisting of interviews of band members from the Peigan Reserve. They were originally created as part of the Aboriginal Video Tape Recording project at Brocket in 1972, with the goal of measuring the residents' awareness of issues surrounding the reserve.
