    The Public Lands Division was transferred from Lands and Mines to the new Ministry of Lands and Forests in 1949.

    Administrative history

    The Provincial Lands Division was formed in 1938 when the Provincial Lands Administration combined with the School lands Division to form the Lands Administration. In 1949, when the Department of Lands and Mines dissolved, administration of land was taken over by the Department of Lands and Forests.

    The Provincial Lands Administration was formed in 1930. In 1930-31 it was called Provincial and School Lands. In 1935, the School Lands Branch separated out to become the division School Lands Administration. In 1938, Provincial Lands Administration and the School Lands Administration combined to become the Lands Administration.

    Previously part of Lands and Forests, the Public Lands Division became part of the Department of Energy and Natural Resources in 1975 and continued until the Ministry ceased in 1986.

    Previously part of Energy and Natural Resources, the Public Lands Division became part of Forestry, Lands and Wildlife in 1986 and continued within it until the Ministry ceased in 1993.

    Administrative history

    The office of the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Land and Forest Service was formed in 1992. In January of 1993, the transfer order was filed which transferred the program areas from Forestry, Lands and Wildlife to the new Department. The Land and Forest Service was responsible for the proper use, management, allocation, and protection of Alberta’s public lands. It continued within Environmental Protection until 1999.
