            Mae Deans fonds

            The fonds consists of textual, digital and audiovisual material created or collected by Mae Deans during her volunteer years with the Alberta Women's Institutes. The drawings were created in color by children during a Farm Safety educational event organized in 1998-1999 by the Alberta Women's Institutes, which later donated this material to Mae Deans. The drawings show strategies developed by the Alberta Women's Institutes to improve quality of life in rural Alberta.

            The series consists primarily of the records of the Remote Area Heating Allowance Appeal Committee. The Appeal Committee was an independent body formed to hear and rule on appeals put forth by Albertans residing in remote areas regarding rebates for the lack of natural gas services. The rebate benefits were paid until natural gas services became available in the area. The records consist of meeting materials, annual reports, and correspondence. Included is one file of policy documents regarding the Primary Agricultural Producers Rebate Program, which provided agricultural produces natural gas rebates.
