    Biographical history

    Samuel (Sam) W. Cooper was born in 1923. He was possibly involved in construction work at the Bleriot Ferry. Sam and wife Frances had five children: Stella (Hickie), Dora (Broatch), Diane (Mitchell), Frederick James (1959-1979), and another son. In 1988, Sam lived in Gunn, Alberta but later moved to Rich Valley, Alberta.

    Sam Cooper died in Edmonton on January 13, 1990.

    Scope and content

    The fonds consists of images of various Alberta ferries and includes: images, originally dating 1978, of construction at the Bleriot Ferry, which crosses the Red Deer River near the town of Drumheller; images, originally dating 1978, of the Shaftesbury Ferry, which crosses the Peace River south of the town of Grimshaw; and images, originally dating 1981/1982, of the Crowfoot Ferry, which crosses the Bow River west of the town of Bassano.

    Immediate source of acquisition

    Maurice Doll of the Provincial Museum of Alberta, on behalf of Sam Cooper, allowed the records to be copied by the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1988. The originals were returned to Maurice Doll.
