    The ARDA Branch was established in 1966. Its functions were transferred to the Human Resources Development Authority in 1968.

    Administrative history

    The Human Resources Development Authority (HRDA) was established in 1967 (S.A. 1967, c. 35). The Authority was composed of five members of Executive Council as well as an appointed Director who acted as the Chief Executive Officer.

    The role of the Authority was to develop, coordinate and supervise provincial and regional programs and services to encourage and help individuals and communities develop their human resources to their fullest potential. The Authority was distinct from the Alberta Human Resources Research Council (established by S.A. 1967, c. 36) in that the Council conducted research only while the Authority coordinated and supervised government programs.

    The Authority was disbanded in 1973, with its responsibilities for ongoing projects divided between the Office of Program Coordination in Executive Council as well as other departments including Agriculture, Education, and Energy and Natural Resources. Its enabling legislation was repealed in 1976 (S.A.1976, c. 51, s. 1).

    The series consists of records related to agricultural projects undertaken to increase incomes, employment opportunities, and the standard of living for individuals residing in underdeveloped and rural areas of Alberta. The files contain correspondence, minutes of meetings, project files, newsletters, reports, and other related records pertaining to leadership programs, Indigenous agricultural labour programs, farm consolidation, federal-provincial agricultural initiatives, and other projects.
