The Stearns Mutual Telephone Company was incorporated under the Societies Act on November 15, 1934 and served an area around Strome, Alberta. Specifically it included township 43, Range 15, West of the 4th Meridian (43-15-W4). Alberta Government Telephones (AGT) assumed provision of communication services in the area on November 29, 1972 and the Stearns Mutual Telephone Company was dissolved in 1973.

Fonds consists of the business records of the Stearns Mutual Telephone Company and includes agreements, certificate of incorporation, correspondence, notices, contracts, voting proxies, minutes, financial records, telephone statistics, annual reports, annual returns, subscriber accounts, and maps depicting the area serviced by the Stearns Mutual Telephone Company.

Mr. C.J. Krickl, secretary-treasurer of the Stearns Mutual Telephone Company, deposited these records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1976.
