    Biographical history

The Irrigated Farms Company Limited was incorporated on October 15, 1926 by A. (Abner) Gladstone Virtue, G.C. Paterson, and H.P. Ober in Lethbridge, Alberta. The shareholders increased to five with the addition of O.H. Thomee and A. McNally soon after the company was incorporated, and the company operated out of the law firm of Virtue and Paterson in Lethbridge, Alberta, run by A. Gladstone Virtue and G.C. Paterson who, along with being shareholders and directors of The Irrigated Farms Company, acted as The Irrigated Farms Company's solicitors.

The company engaged in buying and selling various tracts of land in the Lethbridge area and eventually maintained seven quarter sections of land, which included Sections 20, 21, 28, Township 8, Range 19, West of the 4th Meridian (20,21,28-8-19-W4). They leased these small irrigated farms to various farmers for varying periods of time, taking payment in cash and produce. During this time The Irrigated Farms Company also invested in stocks, bonds and other companies.

By 1950 A. Gladstone Virtue was the majority shareholder of the company, his son, C.G. (Charles Gladstone) Virtue was a director, and the firm of Virtue, Russell, Morgan, and Virtue of Lethbridge was the company's head office. A. Gladstone Virtue died on August 3, 1960 and shortly thereafter, on October 10, 1961 the remaining shareholders, which included Mrs. Margaret E. McNally, the Estate of E.H. Russell, the Estate of G.C. Paterson, the Estate of A.G. Virtue, and C.G. Virtue, decided to voluntarily liquidate the company. The company appointed D. Cliffton Prowse and C.G. Virtue as liquidators and the company was officially dissolved under the The Companies Act on October 1, 1971.
