    Biographical history

    Gertrude "Trudie" Bloor Pomahac McLaren was born in Vilna, Alberta in 1934. She attended the University of Alberta, and received a B.A. in History in 1967. She then acquired a Master of Librarianship from the University of Washington.

    In 1974, she began working as Assistant University Archivist at the University of Alberta Archives. She retired in 1994 but continued to volunteer with the City of Edmonton Archives, the Provincial Archives of Alberta, the Canadian Federation of University Women, and the Edmonton Lifelong Learners Association.

    She was a member of the Edmonton and District Historical Society, the Friends of the Geographical Names of Alberta Society, Alberta Society of Archivists, the Documentary Heritage Society of Alberta, the Alberta Women's Archives Association, and the Canadian Society for the Study of Names and the Rupert's Land Studies Consortium. She received numerous awards for her work in the archival community in Alberta.

    She died in Calgary in 2018.

    Scope and content

    The fonds reflects Trudie's interest in preserving the documentary heritage of Alberta. The fonds consists of pamphlets on the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, the Christian Commonwealth Adult Movement, the Seventh Annual Peace River Music Festival, a copy of the publication The Cow Bell; 10 cookbooks published by various associations dating from 1938 to 1981; a photograph featuring Members of the Alberta Legislature dating from the early part of the 20th century, and sheet music related to World War I and World War II published by Canadian and American publishing houses dating from 1916 - 1942.
