    Biographical history

    Walter Paszkowski was born on April 23, 1934 in Sexsmith, Alberta. He received his education from Sexsmith High School and Fairview Agricultural College, where he took grain-marketing courses. After college, he returned to Sexsmith, where he farmed and maintained a seed farm and retail seed outlet. He also served as a school trustee as well as Mayor for the Town of Vermilion. He married Gertrude "Trudie" Trudel (1936-1994) in 1972. He later married Marlyss Moller in 2000.

    He was elected as a Progressive Conservative MLA for the electoral districts of Smoky River (1989-1993) and Grande Prairie-Smoky (1993-2001). He served as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (1993-1997), Minister of Transportation and Utilities (1997-1999), and Minister of Municipal Affairs (1999-2001). He retired at the end of his third term when the legislature was dissolved in 2001.

    After leaving office, he served as President of the Alberta Canola Growers, Chair of the Canola Council of Canada, and as a member of the Canadian Seed Growers Association. He was later appointed to the board of directors of the Alberta Order of Excellence Council.

    The fonds consists of material used, maintained and created during Walter Paszkowski's tenure as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development. The fonds includes ministerial correspondence with provincial, federal, and municipal constituents, associations, societies, companies, and other governmental agencies; pamphlets and minutes of meetings, and news releases.
