    Biographical history

    Born in 1924, William Clare Wonders received a B.A. in Geography from the University of Toronto in 1946, an M.A. in Geography from the University of Syracuse in 1948, and a PhD from the University of Toronto in 1951.

    He founded the Department of Geography at the University of Alberta and served as its first professor. Co-founder and first chair of the Boreal Institute for Northern Studies (now the Canadian Circumpolar Institute), his research, teaching, writing, and consulting work has focused on the North, first nations land claims, Scandinavia, and special atlases.

    He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1999 and received the Queen's Jubilee Medal. He died in Victoria, B.C. in 2011.

    The fonds relates to William Clare Wonders' professional occupation as a geographer and includes a copy of Field Guide Field Tour EA 1 (The Canadian Northwest) 22nd International Geographical Congress, Canada 1972.
